In 2018, the city of Littleton conducted a housing study to learn what really matters most to residents, especially as they started to consider what new and re-development would look throughout the city over the next 20 years.
These are some of the findings.
- Families continue to decline in Littleton – Housing Study update showed a decline from 29% in 2010 to 24% in 2018
- Single family homes are too expensive for families
- Rising housing costs continue to outpacing income growth
- Growth of housing stock not keeping up with population growth
- We need more inventory
- High housing costs are keeping people from transitioning to homes that fit their current stage or situation of life (families – single (or coupled) adults – disabled adults – seniors)
- Families looking to expand
- Aging residents looking to downsize
- Single adults wanting to be homeowners
- Many single family homes are too large for one or two people, yet most house only one or two people
